Supply Room Reorganization Success

Akro-Mils recently assisted St. Vincent Charity Medical Center (Cleveland, Ohio) in a pilot program
to reorganize a supply room in its Spine, Orthopedic and Bariatric Unit.

Here’s what the nurses and material management staff say about the success of the program:

“The color-coded categories and bins are a great way to find a product in a short time. Every minute of saved time in the delivery of patient care really impacts the flow of the shift. The redesign also sends a message to the staff that we are concerned about making their workday effective, productive
and ergonomic.”

“I like the new room because even though I work here every day, I still find myself looking at the legend, and I can find things. That improves my job. This is definitely a time-saving benefit.”

“It makes it easier to find things. The color coding — when you need something, you think what it’s for and you can go. It’s very easy to pick out what bin to get things out of.”

“The Akro-Mils pilot program has been a godsend. We need to use resources wisely, and using the color-coded bin system has allowed us to do just that. We are planning to institute the system hospital-wide, which will help float nurses know that all products are the same on every floor.”
